About Us

Our History

Bladz Skate Shop was founded in 1999 in Edmonton, Alberta by Terry Burrows. During a distinguished 20-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces, founder Terry Burrows decided to open a small skate sharpening business in his spare time. An avid hockey goalie that played on as many as 3 different teams during the hockey season, Terry could never find reliable and consistent skate sharpening services.

With that in mind, in 1999 Terry opened a small skate sharpening service out of the Edmonton Garrison in Namao, Alberta. Just over three years later, he became a Maximum Edge® member, trained by Bob Allen from Maximum Edge® in Windsor ON.

In 2004 Terry retired from the military and moved Bladz skate sharpening into North Edmonton, along with his daughter Kayleigh. Rapidly growing into a consistent and professional skate sharpening service in Edmonton and Area, friends and family became interested in what Bladz Skate Shop was providing and today we have 9 locations across Canada.

Terry Burrows founded Bladz Skate Shop in 1999 after a distinguised 20-year military career.

What We Do

Bladz Skate Shop is a full service skate sharpening and maintenance service provider with 9 locations throughout Alberta, Ontario and BC.  We are also a member of Maximum Edge®, a skate-sharpening supplier to the NHL.

We offer our hockey and figure skating customers a superior standard in skate blade maintenance. The Maximum Edge sharpening system that we utilize incorporates its own profiling and patented finishing process, which increases the number one factor in skating – skater control.

Skaters should be in control of their skates, NOT the skates in control of the skater. This system provides an improved center of gravity, resulting in greater maneuverability and increased speed.

Average skate sharpeners tend to give deep hollows to compensate for uneven, misaligned or non-profiled skates. Good skate sharpeners may be able to give you a level sharpening. Great skate sharpeners will give you a consistent, level sharpening, will not erode the blade awayunnecessarily and have working knowledge of how the skate and skater interact with the ice.

We have worked with many hockey players from the Edmonton Oilers and other NHL teams. Various other teams include Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL), St. Albert Saints and Steel, Spruce Grove Saints, Fort Saskatchewan Traders, NAIT, Grant Mac Ewan, St. Albert Sports Academy, St. Edmunds Hockey Academy, O’Leary Hockey Academy and St. FX Hockey Academy. We also work with skaters and instructors from clubs including The Ice Place Skating Club, Centennial Skating Club, Extreme Edge Skating Club, Quantum Speed and Steve Serdachnys’ Elite Power Skating Club.

If you have any questions about youtr skates, Bladz Skate Shop or the services that we provide, please contact your nearest Bladz Skate Shop location.
