Maximum Edge Skate Sharpening

MAXIMUM EDGE is a skate-sharpening supplier to the NHL including on ice officials.

MAXIMUM EDGE has performed skate maintenance work shops for major hockey supply companies, NHL, AHL, CHL, ECHL, IHL, UHL, WCHL, WPHL, OHL, universities, colleges, minor hockey systems and the U.S.  and Canadian National programs.

MAXIMUM EDGE and our member locations offer their hockey and figure skating customers a superior standard in skate blade maintenance.  The sharpening system incorporates our own profiling and patented finish process, which increases the number one factor in skating - skater control.

This system provides an improved centre of gravity, resulting in greater manoeuvrability and increased speed.

Skaters should be in control of their skates, NOT the skates in control of the skater.

Blade profile and a square radius should work with the skater’s ability instead of creating body compensations and added physical stress.    The more accurate the skater’s centre of gravity is the greater the results in personal performance.

Proper sharpening, blade mounting, alignment and profile determine a skater’s centre of gravity, body posture, body compensations, and physical stress.  All which affect the skating style, speed, stops, starts and the hockey players stick handling and shot, as well as a figure skaters jumps and landings.

Please feel free to contact Maximum Edge or one of our members with any questions about your skates.

The Process

The Maximum Edge skate blade sharpening and patented squaring and finishing process is a seven-step process.

1.      Machine Calibration

2.      Bladz e Preparation 1

3.      Machine Sharpening

4.      Blade Preparation 2

5.      Finishing Pass

6.      Blade Calibration

7.      Blade Finishing Process

Using this finely honed process you will receive the same consistent results from us or any of our members that many professional players are receiving from their equipment managers who have taken the Maximum Edge training program.

The Benefits of the Maximum Edge skate blade sharpening and patented squaring and finishing process.

  • No brake-in period after sharpening
  • Elimination of sharp burrs creates a safer edge reducing the number of incidental and accidental cuts.  Blades that have not been finished have small burrs and foreign material redeposited by machine sharpening.  The burrs and foreign material break off the first time that the skates are used leaving sharp edged pockets which can result in skate release, poor performance and a jagged blade with greater potential for cuts to both skater and equipment.
  • Blade edges stay sharp longer, so skaters do not have to change skating styles to compensate for the blade edges as they break down, resulting in less fatigue and injury.
  • Improved center of gravity
  • Better control, turns, flow and acceleration
  • Major reduction in skate release
  • Less friction = less fatigue
  • No chatter on stops
  • Increased confidence level in blade edges
